Content & SEO Specialist
Overview
The Content & SEO Specialist at Waypost Marketing plays a crucial role in strengthening our digital presence and enhancing our clients' marketing strategies. This position focuses on content creation, content optimization, SEO, and digital marketing, working closely with Marketing Strategists, Marketing Coordinators, the Demand Generation Analyst, and the creative team to develop and implement comprehensive SEO and content strategies.
This role is perfect for someone who loves technical research and writing, diving into data, and shaping content strategies that not only rank but perform. You’ll take the lead on content strategy across a diverse client portfolio, with a strong focus on SEO and evolving search technologies, including SEO for AI-driven results. This is a full-time, in-office position that reports directly to the Director of Client Services.
Core Responsibilities
- Content Creation & Optimization:
- Produce and edit high-quality, engaging long- and short-form content for eBooks, websites, blogs, and other digital and print platforms
- Optimize existing content for SEO, conversion, and AI-readiness, incorporating best practices in metadata, internal linking, content structure, and readability
- Conduct keyword research to identify high-impact target terms and variations for content planning and optimization
- Ensure accuracy, topical relevance, and user value through in-depth research
- Review and edit internal and client-facing content to maintain consistency with brand tone, voice, and optimization standards
- Website Strategy & SEO Content Development:
- Analyze client Discovery documents to understand target audiences, marketing funnels, and strategic priorities
- Perform competitor research to gather insights and inspiration for website architecture, webpage planning, and content themes
- Develop keyword strategies to inform page titles, URL structures, and core content focus
- Write strategic, conversion-oriented website content that aligns with user intent, SEO goals, and brand messaging
- Industry Trend Monitoring & Strategic Input:
- Stay up-to-date with content marketing, SEO, and AI trends by following industry experts and attending webinars
- Recommend new tools, frameworks, and approaches to ensure content efforts adapt to new trends, with special emphasis on AI and evolving search trends like Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) and other large language model-driven search behaviors
- Performance Analytics & Reporting:
- Track keyword rankings and organic traffic performance using tools like Google Search Console and SEMRush
- Report and provide data-backed insights, clearly communicating performance to our internal marketing team and to clients
- Team Collaboration
- Manage freelance writers by conducting keyword research, providing detailed content guidelines, and editing their work for quality, SEO alignment, and brand voice
- Collaborate with the design team to ensure content layout, visual assets, and UX/UI support organic performance
- Participate in regular marketing meetings, planning meetings, and brainstorming sessions
- Maintain open communication with all team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in content creation, digital marketing, and SEO; a strong technical background is a plus
- Excellent writing and editing skills across various content types
- Strong SEO knowledge and experience with SEO tools, such as SEMRush
- Awareness of AI’s impact on search and interest in staying on the leading edge of SEO and AI innovation
- Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Familiarity with content management systems, marketing automation tools, and CRM systems
